Additional Comments:
NEWSFLASH: Orfeo's first foal of the year has hit the ground! She is a chestnut filly out of a black/bay mare. Congratulations to Ilse on her beautiful little girl!Orfeo is a refined, flashy inscribed PSL stud bred by Gaston Santos, Sr., of Rancho La Jarilla in Mexico with several famous stallions in his pedigree, including Nilo, Bailador, and Que-Ba. He is 100% Veiga and was an active bullfighter in Mexico until imported in 2005.Orfeo has very correct, sound conformation with good angles and no crookedness. He is very refined in build yet very baroque with the classic "Veiga head" and square, powerful build. He has a long neck for his short back, an ideal combination for dressage work. He does not have "staccato" gaits, rather, after minimum work filling in the basics, they have become floaty yet powerful, like driving a Lambourghini. He is extremely free in his body, especially in his shoulders, having a particularly expressive Spanish walk and a heavenly canter. He has a wonderful extension and a very rhythmic natural piaffe, not hectic or fast in any way. He also overtracks easily and has large strides. He has done well in dressage competition, scoring 8s and 8.5s on his lengthenings. We intend to debut him in 2nd level soon.Orfeo has a great work ethic and is extremely trainable, learning new things very quickly with enthusiasm. While he is very playful and has a great sense of humor, he is super gentle and kind and quiet. Everyone who meets him loves him, from the most beginning horsemen to respected FEI clinicians. He is a great trail horse and is good around mares and other horses, even when they invade his space in the arena.Orfeo should cross well with a wide variety of mares, from warmbloods or other Lusitanos to heavier quarter horses, passing a delightful temperament and exceptional athleticism, not to mention the added benefit of proven performance lines.Fertility reports are very good, and both mares bred this year conceived on first try.
