Purchased by John Ferguson for $270,000 at the Keeneland September sale, Montbretiawas the second highest priced MEADOWLAKE yearling sold at public auction in 2001. Racing for Sheik Mohammed, he broke hismaiden at second asking in a maiden special weight atDel Mar, completing 6.5 furlongs in 1:16.29. Throughout his career he continued toshow excellent speed, consistently running splits of 22, 44, 1:09 and 1:21 and change for 7 furlongs.He was retired due to a wrap bowed tendon with a record of 9-1-4-0 and earnings of$68,480. This beautifully conformed, perfectly balanced, flashy stallion's firstfoals are 2 year olds of 2009.
