Amelia, VA

It seems as if it was Ashlee Owens destiny to be a horse trainer. Ashlee was born and raised in central Virginia where she grew up on a horse farm in Chesterfield, Virginia. She grew up riding hunter, jumpers, western pleasure, then into high school rodeo where she competed in barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping, and team roping. Ashlee's first training job was when she was 12 years old for a local horseman that threw her on any and everything whether it was safe or not.

Training
At Ashlee Owens Horsemanship, we teach owners how to effectively communicate goals, set boundaries and have your horse understand what the correct response is in any situation. Ashlee Owens is more of a behaviorist than a traditional horse trainer who believes owners must understand the importance of learning how to read their horse's body language, reactions and responses correctly in order to achieve a true partnership.

People seek the help of Ashlee Owens Horsemanship for many different reasons; for some, it is to rid their horse of unwanted behaviors such as aggression, bucking, rearing, kicking, biting or spooking. Other people may be looking for a more effective partnership with their horse and be interested in improving their basic horsemanship skills, round penning, ground respect, liberty work, whole body riding and performance work.

As a certified trainer Ashlee is always searching for more effective ways to understand and handle horses. She started training horses professionally in 1998 and believes that you never stop learning. Whether it is from 'the most trusted horseman' to the first time owner; from a completely un-broke horse to a champion performance horse, every new situation demands a fresh approach.

At the foundation of Ashlee Owens Horsemanship is an understanding that each horse reacts differently; there are those horses that are more responsive than others, some demonstrate fear responses while others show more aggressive tendencies. It is extremely important to adapt your training methods to your horse's individual needs. Ashlee Owens Horsemanship is based in Amelia, VA and is able to travel to all areas of central Virginia, or you and your horse are welcome at our farm. In addition, Ashlee Owens Horsemanship is available throughout the United States for private training sessions, clinics, workshops, demonstrations and expos.
