KC CARDEN—STALLION AND RANCH MANAGER
KC Carden has been involved in racing (in some form or another) nearly his entire life. Growing up in Dallas, TX, he was a member of one of the top ranked 4x400 meter relay high school teams in the country. In addition, he was an alternate to the 4x400 meter relay team in the 1984 Olympics held in Los Angeles, California. After high school, he was awarded a track scholarship to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where he completed a degree in education. It was at a racetrack near Stillwater that his passion for fast horses was kindled. Even though he didn't have much money, he partnered on a few horses, and began learning about the industry. After graduation, he coached for a year, then resigned in 1991 to pursue training race horses full-time. He says, “I figured that training racehorses couldn't be much different than coaching and training human athletes, and it is not a problem if you pat a horse after it runs and tell it 'good job!' ”
He trained at racetracks all over the country, starting in Iowa, then in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Minnesota, and New Mexico. Along the way, he picked up numerous Leading Trainer awards at various tracks. He won the inaugural running of the Sam Houston Futurity in 1994, and those earnings helped him purchase a training facility, Futurity Farms, located in Elgin, Texas. In 1996, he trained three world champions, Kool Kue Baby, Toast To Dash, and Winalota Cash. Kool Kue Baby's record of 26 stakes wins still stands as the most stakes races won by any Quarter Horse. Toast To Dash won 7 futurities that year, went on to sell for over $1 million, and has become one of the nation's top racing sires. He also bred, trained, and owns Brindis Por Cayenne, a stallion which ran 3rd in Quarter Horse racing's richest race, the All American Futurity, in 2005, and has earnings in excess of $450,000.

In recent years, KC was one of the top trainers and owners in AQHA's Bank of America Challenge program, winning Leading Trainer in 2004 and Leading Owner in 2006 and 2007. He and partner David Stanford's S Bar S Racing enjoyed Leading Owner awards in 2008 and 2009, and Carden won Leading Trainer in 2008 and 2009 as well. With the Challenge program, his traveling increased, and he raced horses in Washington, Wyoming, California, Oregon, Arizona, and Alberta, Canada.

In June 2010, Carden retired from training racehorses full-time and now manages the Y O Equine Ranch, LLC along with Powder River Veterinary Hospital & Supply's Sheridan location at the Y O Equine Ranch, LLC.
